HOH, Wash. — A Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew medevaced a hiker Sunday in Olympic National Park near Hoh.

At 5:30 p.m., watchstanders at Sector Puget Sound were notified of the fallen hiker and directed the aircrew to respond. A Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy on scene reported the hiker had fallen approximately 100 feet.

The aircrew hoisted the hiker into the helicopter shortly after 7 p.m. before transporting him to awaiting personnel at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.

The middle-aged male hiker was reportedly responsive and in stable condition upon arrival.

The Coast Guard encourages mariners and hikers to remain aware of their surroundings at all times. Whether at sea or on land, it is also recommended all persons maintain a reliable means of communication so that emergency responders can be notified in case of emergency.

On August 13, 2020, the Grays Harbor Drug Task Force served three search warrants for alleged illegal drug sales in Elma, Washington. Officers from Elma PD, Aberdeen PD, Hoquiam PD, the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office and Cosmopolis PD assisted.

The search warrants were a culmination of related ongoing investigations involving local methamphetamine and heroin distribution. 

Three Elma women, two 35 years old and one 29 years old, are currently being held in the Grays Harbor County Jail on felony drug charges.

The Washington State Patrol says it is still looking for an aggressive driver that caused a hit and run collision Saturday evening on State Route 8 in Elma.

The incident occurred on State Route 8 just past the State Route 12 interchange going eastbound at 10:51 pm.

A lifted blue Chevrolet or GMC truck with 2 bicycles in the back going eastbound on State Route 8 was traveling behind a blue Toyota Corolla driven by a 25-year-old Chehalis man in the passing/fast lane (lane 2).  The truck passed the vehicle using the right lane and pulled in front of the Corolla and slammed on their brakes.  The Corolla then swerved to avoid the collision and over-corrected driving into the guardrail.  

The truck fled the scene / failed to stop and the Washington State Patrol is looking for any information on the vehicle regarding the collision.  If you have any information please contact Trooper Rabe at 360-470-0300 option 0.

The driver of the corolla was not injured, however the passenger a 24 year old Centralia woman was transported to Summit Pacific for injuries.  The Corolla was marked totaled and towed from the scene. 

A motorcyclist on State Route 105 driving recklessly and while under the influence at 6:27 AM Tuesday morning was transported to Community Hospital for his injuries after wrecking his motorcycle at milepost 31

According to a Washinton, State Patrol report the 73-year-old Yakima man was riding a black 2002 Yamaha passed a vehicle at a high rate of speed using the right shoulder lost control and went into the ditch totaling his motorcycle. 

 

Cause and charges of the accident are DUI, driving under the influence, 

According to the Washington State Patrol, a 28-year-old Humptulips man driving a 2006 Dodge Ram crossed the center line colliding head-on with a 2019 Peterbilt truck with a log trailer Monday late afternoon. 

The collision occurred on Monday, July 27th at 4:32 pm on US 101 milepost 92 just before Ocean Beach Road when the 28-year-old Humptulips man traveling southbound on 101 crossed the center line and hit the Peterbilt truck driven by a 64-year old Humptulips man that was in the northbound direction. A 3rd vehicle a 2019 white for F150 driven by a 42-year-old Hoquiam man also traveling northbound on 101 swerved to avoid the collision and ended in the northbound side ditch. 

The driver of the Dodge Ram, the 28-year-old Humptuluips man was transported for his injuries to Community Hospital, the other 2 drivers were not injured. 

The roadway was blocked for approximately 5 hours, no charges have been filed at the time of the report to the causing driver.
