The Hoquiam City Council may ask the voters if they want to ban fireworks in the coming months. The city council last night unanimously approved a motion to research prices on an advisory vote. The issue was raised earlier this summer after July 4th celebrations. No major fires or injuries were attributed to fireworks in Hoquiam this summer, but an ordinance that is more restrictive than state law requires a year to implement.
Karen Dower, with American Promotional Events in Tacoma, works with non-profits to sell legal fireworks throughout the state. She warned against the advisory vote during the public comment period last night, “If you ask the people if they think that will get rid of the big booms, firecrackers, and the pink sticks on their roof, and the fires…”
