A 25-year-old Oakesdale woman was airlifted to Tacoma General Hospital after a collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon near Oakville.

According to a Washington State Patrol press memo, the crash occurred around 4 p.m. Sept. 22 on State Route 12 near Second Street, close to milepost 35.1.

The motorcycle had just turned right onto eastbound SR 12 from Second Street when the rider lost control and crossed the center line. The motorcycle struck a westbound pickup truck towing a trailer before coming to rest in the westbound lane. The pickup and trailer stopped on the westbound shoulder.

The motorcycle rider, identified as 25-year-old Denay M. Young Astry of Oakesdale, was injured and transported by air to Tacoma General Hospital. The report states she was wearing a USDOT-compliant helmet.

The pickup driver, identified as 50-year-old Darren A. Trusty of Oakville, was not injured and was wearing a seat belt. The motorcycle sustained reportable damage and was removed by SATSOP 24 HR Towing. The pickup also sustained reportable damage. The trailer had non-reportable damage and was removed by private tow.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. The Washington State Patrol report indicated that drugs or alcohol were not involved.
