GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY, Wash. — One person was killed and two others were injured following a two-vehicle head-on collision Saturday evening on U.S. Highway 101 near milepost 118, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:46 p.m. on July 25 near Neilton.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling northbound on US 101 when the driver lost control while traveling too fast for road conditions. Investigators say the SUV crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2016 Mazda CX-3.

After the collision, the Trailblazer came to rest down an embankment on the southbound shoulder, while the Mazda stopped in the southbound lane.

The driver of the Trailblazer, 69-year-old Carter William R. of Aberdeen, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Office notified the next of kin.

A passenger in the Trailblazer, 75-year-old Carter Avalon M. of Aberdeen, was injured and airlifted to St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the Mazda, 22-year-old Mercedes J. Hudson-Morrill of Montesano, was also injured and self transported to Summit Pacific Medical Center.

Investigators reported that neither occupant of the Trailblazer was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The Mazda driver was wearing a seatbelt.

The Washington State Patrol determined that speed too fast for conditions was the cause of the collision. Troopers indicated that drugs and alcohol were not involved in the crash.

The collision remains under investigation by the Washington State Patrol.
