Fatal Residential Fire Claims One Life in Rochester, WA

Rochester, WA — October 2, 2025
A devastating house fire in Rochester tragically claimed the life of one individual and three dogs yesterday morning, October 2nd, 2025, according to the West Thurston Regional Fire Authority.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., fire crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire on James Road, where callers indicated that people might still be inside. When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames pouring from the front of the two-story residence. Crews immediately launched an aggressive attack on the fire while simultaneously conducting search and rescue operations.

Despite their efforts, one person and three dogs were discovered deceased inside the home during the initial search. Firefighters worked diligently, with assistance from multiple mutual aid agencies, to bring the blaze under control.

Assisting agencies included Tumwater Fire, South Thurston Fire, McLane/Black Lake Fire, Lacey Fire District 3, Grays Harbor Fire District 1, Riverside Fire & Rescue, and the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy,” said West Thurston Fire Chief Nathan Drake.
