Thursday was not a good day for traffic collisions on the Harbor. One of the collisions resulted in a fatality and from what we've been seeing online is a dog perished in the collision and one is still missing.

On Thursday, September 5th 2024, the Washington State Patrol says that two vehicles were both Southbound on State Route 109 at milepost 12 Ocean City. A 2023 white Ford, TNC driven by a 55-year-old Aberdeen man started to pass a long line of vehicles that were all Southbound entering the northbound lane. At the same time, a 2017 red Kia Soul driven by a 72-year-old Ocean Shores woman entered the Northbound Lanes to pass the same string of line cars not seeing the Ford truck colliding with it losing control and left the roadway to the left side. The red Kia came to rest down an embankment, the Ford truck came to rest in the southbound lane.
According to radio traffic, CPR was being done on the scene, a passenger in the red Kia Soul a 73-year-old Ocean Shores Man, related to the driver of the vehicle died at the scene. We are also told that a dog in the vehicle did not survive, and that an injured one, a Golden retriever, took off and is missing.
The driver of the Kia Soul was transported to Harabor Regional Health for her injuries. The driver of the Ford Truck was not injured.
The cause of the collision is unsafe passing, no impairment indicated on either drivers.
