Difference between High Wind Watch and Warning
High Wind Watch
A High Wind Watch is issued when the following conditions are possible:
1) sustained winds of 40 mph or higher for one hour or more
OR
2) wind gusts of 58 mph or higher for any duration.
Wind Advisory
A Wind Advisory is issued when the following conditions are expected:
1) sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph for an hour or more.
AND/OR
2) wind gusts of 46 to 57 mph for any duration.
High Wind Warning
A High Wind Warning is issued when the following conditions are expected:
1) sustained winds of 40 mph or higher for one hour or more
OR
2) wind gusts of 58 mph or higher for any duration.
WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THURSDAY TO 4 AM PST FRIDAY...
The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect from 4 PM Thursday to 4 AM PST Friday.
* WIND...Southerly winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 to 50 mph.
* TIMING...Windy conditions will develop Thursday evening and linger into early Friday morning.
* IMPACTS...Winds may snap tree branches and cause local power outages.
