Improvements to Aberdeen streets are scheduled for construction beginning the week of August 21, 2023. City of Aberdeen recently awarded two separate projects to improve roadways in Aberdeen. The City awarded the A St & I St project to Rognlin’s Inc., which is a reconstruction project on A St. from 1 st St. to 2 nd St. as well as on I Street from 9 th St. to the entrance to Sam Benn Park. The second project was awarded to Lakeside Inc. to complete the Grind and Inlay project on Park and Alder Streets from Heron St. to State St., on Broadway St. from W Wishkah St. to State St, and on E Market St from E St. to B St.

ABERDEEN – A project to upgrade signals and sidewalks in south Aberdeen is bringing changes for all travelers. On July 10, contractor crews will begin single-lane and sidewalk closures at the intersection of US 101 and State Route 105 on the south side of the Chehalis River. When the project is complete in September, drivers will have brand new traffic signals. Pedestrians will also have a new crosswalk with a signal on US 101.

HOQUIAM – Travelers using both directions of US 101 north of Hoquiam can expect an around the clock closure and detour. A 2-mile section of the highway will close to all travelers from 8 p.m. Sunday, July 9 until 11:59 p.m. Monday, July 31. 

A signed detour will be in place during the closure. Plan for 23-mile detour around US 101 closure US 101 will close to all travelers between Failor Lake Road and Larson Brothers Road. The detour begins and ends in Aberdeen. The detour follows East Market Street, North B Street, Wishkah Road, East Hoquiam Road and Youmans Road. Excavate the roadway, remove barriers to fish During the closure, crews will remove the driving surface of the highway in three separate locations. 

Workers will take out the existing culverts that are a barrier to fish. The culverts will be replaced with fish passable structures. The highway will reopen after crews reinstall the driving surface of the highway. The project also includes two additional work zones. They are located on US 101 between milepost 102 and 103 north of Youmans Road and US 101 at milepost 111.3 north of McNutt Road. Travelers can expect daytime one-way alternating traffic at both locations.
