The Grays Harbor County Coroner’s Office responded Wednesday afternoon, January 22, 2026, to a report of a suspected drowning at Half Moon Bay in Westport.

According to officials, 52-year-old Keith C. Jones of Lakebay, Washington was fishing at Half Moon Bay when he was swept into the water by incoming tide and wave action. Bystanders were able to pull Jones from the water, but he was unresponsive.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death. Next of kin have been notified.

The Grays Harbor County Coroner’s Office extended condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic incident. Officials also urged the public to remain aware of tide conditions and ocean hazards when recreating along the coast and to consider wearing flotation devices for added safety.
