Bonney Lake man is missing and presumed drowned Amy Sue Hill-Butler

The Ocean Shores Police Department said late Friday evening that a 27-year old Bonney Lake man is missing and presumed drowned in the Grand Canal in Ocean Shores in an update to an alert Grays Harbor Scanner shared with its page users.

At approximately 2:53 p.m. on June 16, Ocean Shores Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a water rescue in the Grand Canal, north of the Ocean Shores Marina. Nearby residents reported seeing a canoe and a kayak capsized and two subjects in the water. Neither was wearing a personal floatation device, and one was yelling that he could not swim.

One of the witnesses jumped into the water to try to help the 27-year old man but was unable to rescue him. The other subject, a 12-year old Ocean Shores boy, was able to get to shore.

Ocean Shores PD Officers launched the Department’s patrol boat, which was moored nearby, and were on scene within minutes. By that time, however, the man had slipped under the water and did not resurface.

The Police and Fire Departments, with assistance from a Coast Guard helicopter, continued to search for some time before the search was discontinued.

Plans are in place for the Thurston County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team to come to Ocean Shores in the morning to attempt to locate the missing man.

The man’s name is not being released at this time, pending locating him.
